How do CD-R Discs work?
CD-R Discs contain a layer of photo-sensitive organic polymer dye. When you record a CD-R, a laser is used to heat the dye layer, creating a permanent mark - this process is commonly called 'burning'. These marks alter its reflective properties, as they are not as reflective as the untouched areas. This 'burning' process is irreversible, therefore CD-R discs are WORM (Write Once Read Many). Once a CD-R discs has been recorded, the information cannot be erased making it incorruptible.
How much information does 1 CD-R hold?
CD-R Discs come in 2 main sizes, 650MB, which can also store upto 74 minutes of audio and 700MB, which can store upto 80 minutes of audio. There are many other types of CD-R which can hold different amount of data, some of these are: 90 minutes CD-R, CD-R Business Cards and 8cm CD-Rs.
If I record a CD-R can I play it back in any computer?
Yes, once a CD-R is recorded it cannot be corrupted and can be played back in any CD-ROM Drive.
